The literal French interpretation of “haute couture” is “high dressmaking” and it is a lawfully ensured term that must be utilized by brands approved by the French Ministry of Industry. The fashion houses that are part of this elite group must stick to severe rules, which incorporate having an atelier in Paris that employs at least 20 staff individuals and making custom garments for private customers with at least one fittings.
Haute couture garments are made completely by hand by the industry’s most skilled artisans and craftsmen and represent the best quality fashion cash can purchase. Also, indeed, this includes some major disadvantages, with specific pieces valued at upwards of $100,000.
